Real ID enforcement was slated to begin on Wednesday, but Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that travelers without the new ID cards will be allowed to fly for now. They may face extra steps and scrutiny.
The new form of identification will be necessary to fly domestically or enter certain federal buildings.
In New Jersey, many have been struggling to get appointments to get the federally enhanced form of identification — with the next available appointment not until August.
Beginning May 20, the NJMVC will add approximately 5,200 additional appointments during
"Real ID Tuesdays."
If you don't have one yet, you will need to bring your passport or a form of TSA-approved identification to travel.
