Some middle school students in Bergen County are commemorating Memorial Day in a special way.
The eighth-graders of Ramsey’s Eric S. Smith Middle School are honoring fallen service members by planting a field of American flags.
Approximately 7,000 flags will be placed, one for each U.S. soldier killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“I think it’s such a great thing and to be a part of it is so special,” says student Olivia Frazier. “I just feel like I’m doing something for the community.”
The school will cap the event with a ceremony Wednesday night.
