Abortion rights activists held a rally in Trenton to mark the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court Decision and to call for reproductive freedom for all.
“If it’s not your body, it’s not your choice,” one demonstrator said.
The United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last June, allowing some states to place strict restrictions on abortion or outlawing it altogether.
Reproductive freedom is protected in New Jersey by state law. Gov. Phil Murphy signed the Freedom of Reproductive Choice Act law January.
“We know that without a strong Legislature, without a strong governor, we would be here having a very, very different conversation,” says Jackie Cornell, executive director of Planned Parenthood Action Fund New Jersey.
Every seat in the state Legislature is on the ballot this November for New Jersey’s midterms.
