Several families are homeless Saturday after an overnight fire in a vacant home rips through a Paterson neighborhood.As many as four homeless people were allegedly inside a vacant home on 16th Avenue doing drugs when the fire broke out. Fire officials say the heat from the fire melted the siding on several neighboring homes. Cynthia Adams and her roommate escaped from their second-floor apartment when the fire next door spread to their home. David Sanchez ran into another home and rescued three people. He carried out two young boys and a disabled elderly woman. Fire officials say many homes in the neighborhood are no longer structurally sound.The Red Cross is putting the families up at a local hotel for the next three days. Investigators say the fire is suspicious and still under investigation.
