Some streets in Newark were closed on Tuesday while filming took place on a new television series.
“The Equalizer” stars Essex County native Queen Latifah. The scenes were being shot throughout downtown Newark.
“The Equalizer” is a reboot of the 1980s series. Latifah recently announced on Twitter that the show will debut on CBS in the coveted slot following the Super Bowl.
More production crews are also hard at work in New Jersey. There are currently at least seven major productions underway in the Garden State – the most since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Studios and unions agreed on coronavirus protocols earlier this fall, jump-starting an industry that brought $400 million in revenue to New Jersey last year, according to the state's Motion Picture and Television Commission. The commission expects more production in the next year.
