Dozens of protesters marched outside police headquarters in Passaic Saturday to decry what they say was an act of police brutality.
Residents say surveillance video taken outside a restaurant last week shows Ronnie Holloway, of Passaic, being beaten by Officer Joseph Rios, III.
Holloway, who was at the protest, claims he was beaten for no reason at all. His lawyer says he suffered a swollen eye, a sprained leg and bruises. Protesters call it a case of police brutality, and want Rios fired.
"How could they say a gang should stop their violence, and you perform like a gang," says Larry Miller, of Passaic.
Holloway, a schizophrenic who's on medication, was charged with resisting arrest and wandering with the intent to buy drugs.
The Passaic Police Department declined to comment.
Holloway is due in court June 26. His lawyer says he plans to file a civil rights lawsuit against Rios and the Passaic Police Department.
