Authorities say a man who had been fighting on a New Brunswick street was shot and wounded by police last night.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office says two officers were on patrol when they spotted a fight near Seaman Street and Remsen Avenue at around 6:15 p.m.
Officials say one of the combatants was shot after the officers learned he apparently had a gun and failed to drop it. Officials say at least two shots were fired, but the details are still being investigated.
Family members and friends have identified the man as 19-year-old Victor Rodriguez. They tell News 12 New Jersey the teen was trying to break into the music business and carried a fake gun for protection.
The shooting is under investigation by the prosecutor's office, which is standard policy in police-involved shootings.
