A young driver is facing charges related to a crash that left three passengers with serious injuries.

The crash happened on Dec. 1 on Durie Avenue in Closter. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office says that the juvenile was driving a Tesla Model X. That car had run off the road and crashed into a tree.

Officials say that in addition to the young driver, there were four additional juvenile passengers. Three of those passengers suffered serious injuries, according to the prosecutor. Officials say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed before it crashed.

The juvenile driver was charged with three counts of fourth-degree assault by auto resulting in serious bodily injury. They were released into the custody of a guardian pending a Family Court appearance.
