A shooting at a Hackensack nursing home on Saturday has been ruled a murder-suicide, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officials say that 75-year-old Michael Zaccario shot his 72-year-old wife Patricia Zaccario and then turned the gun on himself. Both were pronounced dead at the facility.
The incident happened at the CareOne Wellington facility on Union Street Saturday morning. A 911 call was made just before 9 a.m.
CareOne issued a statement following the shooting that read in part, "We are deeply saddened by the tragedy that took place at our Wellington building today. Our hearts go out to the victims' family and loved ones.”
It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting.
