No charges will be filed in a dog attack that killed a 3-year-old boy and injured his mother in Carteret, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The attack happened earlier this month on Laurel Street. Authorities say that two pit bulls came through the fence of the family’s yard and attacked the boy, identified as Azis Ahmed. The mother was injured as she tried to pull the dogs off her child.
Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone says that an investigation revealed that there was “no intentional, knowing or reckless criminal conduct uncovered.”
“Based on information received, no previous violent incidents involving the animals in question has been conveyed to law enforcement,” Ciccone said in a letter to the community.
The owner did receive summonses because the dogs were unlicensed.
The dogs were put down following the attack.
Thousands of dollars have been raised by the community for the family.
