A Toms River man is facing charges after he allegedly set fire to his home after getting into an argument with his wife.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office says that Christopher Defeis, 45, attended a New Year’s Eve party with his wife and that they got into an argument.
Defeis allegedly assaulted his wife and then returned to their 15th Street home, which he then allegedly doused in gasoline and set ablaze.
Officials say that firefighters found Defeis asleep in his car in his driveway around 5 a.m. Tuesday.
One firefighter suffered second-degree burns fighting the fire. Several other suffered from heat exhaustion.
Defeis was charged with domestic violence, arson and causing injury to a firefighter.
