Authorities say that a Little Egg Harbor man shot and killed his ex-wife and her dog before turning the gun on himself.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says Kimberly Hoffman, 49, called 911 just after 5 a.m. on Saturday to report that she believed that someone was breaking into her Whitemarsh Court apartment.
Authorities say that when officers forced their way into the apartment, they found Hoffman dead. They say that she was shot in the face. A dog was also found dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Officials also say that they found 52-year-old Carl Schulz inside the apartment shot in the head. He was conscious when police arrived, according to officials, but later died at the hospital.
Officials say that Schulz appears to have shot Hoffman and the dog and then shot himself. A motive was not immediately made clear.
