Prosecutor: Man faces charges in Hillsborough shooting incident
A 19-year-old man is facing charges related to a shooting incident in Hillsborough on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident was reported around 1 p.m. near 649 Route 206, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. Officials say that when police arrived, they did not find a suspect, nor a victim. They say that officers did find eyewitnesses who gave a description of the suspect.
“Hillsborough Township Officers established a perimeter of the area and began to search for both the shooter and the victim. As a precaution, authorities placed area schools in a secure hold and advised local residents and businesses to use caution,” the prosecutor wrote in a statement.
Schools were eventually dismissed as normal.
The prosecutor says that officers were able to locate the victim – identified as a 19-year-old Hillsborough man. Officials say this victim was not injured in the shooting and identified the suspect as Dawan Jeter.
Officials say that as authorities were attempting to find Jeter, they learned that he was turning himself in to the Hillsborough Police Department.
Jeter is now facing several charges, including attempted murder and is being held at the Somerset County Jail.
