An afternoon apartment fire in Somerset County left one man dead, according to the county prosecutor’s office.

Authorities say that the fire started just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday on Hempstead Drive in Franklin Township. Firefighters were able to get the man out of the apartment unit and took him to a trauma center, but he died from his injuries.

The man’s identity was not released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
