Prosecutor: 8-year-old girl fights off attempted kidnapper in Berlin Township

Police say the suspect approached her from behind around 8:45 a.m. near the intersection of Washington and Grove avenues.

A child escaped an attempted abduction on her way to school Wednesday in Berlin Township, according to the Camden County Prosecutors Office.
Police say the suspect approached her from behind around 8:45 a.m. near the intersection of Washington and Grove avenues.
The 8-year-old told authorities she managed to get away after she tried to stab him in the face with a pencil.
No arrests have been made as of Friday morning. The suspect is described as a Black male with a dark beard, black clothes and a baseball cap with an unknown symbol on it.
The man may also have a facial injury from the girl's pencil, according to police.
The Camden County Prosecutors Office urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious people or activities.
