Proposed gun business faces backlash from residents in Deer Park

This morning some very concerned residents in Deer Park are pushing back against a proposed gun store in their neighborhood.
More than a dozen people spoke out against the plan at a Town of Babylon Zoning Board hearing Thursday night.
The business would serve as a federally licensed transfer station for online gun purchases. If you buy a gun on the internet — it cannot be shipped to private homes.
The owners would perform the background checks — and then transfer the weapon to the buyer.
Some repairs would also be conducted there, but neighbors say it's too close to their homes, and does not belong.
“We have children who walk back and forth, now they're going to see a gun store. They're going to see people walking out with weapons. In today's times we are losing a lot of people to gunshots,” says Elaine Burnett, of Deer Park.
The board made no decision Thursday night, but they did have questions about how many weapons would be at the location and how they would be stored
No timeline was given for when the decision will be made, and it will come by mail.
