A proposed new ice skating rink in Bridgeport has left owners of one of the city’s oldest rinks feeling blind-sided.
The city only recently extended its lease with Wonderland of Ice through 2038.
The deal requires Lisa Fedik, who operates the facility, to invest $500,000 for upgrades.
However, a new rink is set to be operated by Park City Ice Palace, LLC and the Davidson Building on Main Street.
It's a $12 million private investment that is expected to include a fitness center, juice bar and coffee shops.
Attorney Stephan Seeger, who represents the group, says this new rink is not intended to hurt Wonderland of Ice.
"We’ve done our research and we've done a viability study that clearly points out there's a need for more ice in the area and the Bridgeport facility is a facility that is completely different than the ones contemplated,” says Seeger.
Seeger says the new rink is a go, and construction is expected to begin sometime in the next couple of years.
