(08/18/06) PRINCETON ? Princeton University beat out Harvard to nab the top spot in U.S. News and World Report?s list of best undergraduate schools in the country.
The honor marks the first time in four years Princeton has been able to overtake Harvard on the list. Despite being named tops in the country, there was little fanfare about the event on the Princeton campus Friday. Part of the calm reaction is due to many students still being away for the summer. Princeton alums say the calm, for the most part, also comes from students not really caring about such honors.
The reaction among Princeton residents, however, was anything but tempered. Many residents say the honor is great for the both the school and the surrounding communities. Princeton officials, through a statement, said they are pleased the school?s high level of undergraduate education was recognized.
