As the last presidential primary election for 2016 is held in Washington, D.C., the Orlando massacre is making the war on terror the focus on the campaign trail.

Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump presented their plans on how they would stop terrorism if elected.

Clinton laid out a plan to guard against terrorists who act alone. She also promised tighter gun control.

Trump continued to position himself as tough on terror. He renewed his call to temporarily ban Muslims from migrating to the United States.

In the meantime, Senate Democrats say they will try forcing a vote on making it harder for suspected terrorists, or people on the government's terror watch list, to buy guns. The vote could come this week.

President Barack Obama said the massacre was the result of "home grown extremism" and it is being investigated as a terror attack.

The president will travel to Orlando on Thursday to honor the victims.
