Powerful thunderstorms that traversed through New Jersey Friday afternoon and evening produced heavy rain and knocked out power to thousands of people.
More than 20,000 New Jersey residents lost power at the peak of the storm, mainly in Ocean County. At least 15,000 people in Toms River were without power for a time.
The storm knocked over some trees, utility poles and traffic lights.
Utility crews were out late Friday night making repairs to restore the power.
Friday’s storms have cleared out of the area. But remnants of Laura are expected to impact New Jersey Saturday, bringing more rain to the area.
