Gov. Phil Murphy’s approval rating remains high in a new
Monmouth Poll, but more than 40% of New Jersey voters say that it is time for a new governor.
The poll found that Murphy has a 57% approval rating. Forty-eight percent of voters polled said that he should be re-elected, while 43% wanted someone else.
Political analyst and Rider University professor Micah Rasmussen says the governor is still in a strong position to win in November.
"He's winning almost every demographic. He's even got a decent amount of support - between 15% and 20% of Republicans at this point - who are willing to say they'd consider voting for him,” Rasmussen says. “So if he holds on to one out of every five Republicans, he's going to do OK.”
Former state Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli is still the favorite on the Republican side to the governor.
Ciattarelli needs to win the June primary against former Freeholder Brian Levine, pastor Phil Rizzo and perennial candidate Hirsh Singh.
