Authorities say a 16-year-old boy and his 8-year-old brother were killed when someone opened fire on their home in Trenton.

Authorities say a 16-year-old boy and his 8-year-old brother were killed when someone opened fire on their home in Trenton.
Trenton police say the shooting took place on Mulberry Street around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities say the gunfire was directed at the second floor of the home. Gustavo Perez,16, and 8-year-old Johnny Perez were struck and killed.

“My youngest son this is where it entered by his heart…The ambulance arrived but at that point, we couldn't do anything,” the boys’ father, Taofolo Perez, said through a Spanish translator.
Authorities have no information on a suspect and have no motive for the slayings.
Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora says that the city needs to do better.
"I think the message really needs to go out to the younger generation that they have to decide what kind of city they want to inherit and we have to find ways to avoid gang violence and resolving differences in the neighborhood,” Gusciora said.
Trenton has seen an explosion of violent crime this year with 34 homicides - more than double last year's total of 15. It is also close to setting its deadliest year on record - 37 homicides in 2013.
