A woman from Verona was carjacked in her own driveway on Sunday, authorities say.
Police say it happened around 3:30 p.m. when the victim parked her white Porsche Macan at her home along Floyd Road. They say as she got out of the car, she was approached by three men.
Officials say the suspects demanded the woman’s keys and then punched and hit her around the head until she was knocked down to the ground. The suspects drove off in the Porsche and a getaway car.
Police responded and spotted both cars at the intersection of Mount Prospect and Bloomfield avenues. Verona police officers gave chase but ended that pursuit when it became too dangerous to follow.
Neighbors along Floyd Road say that it’s concerning because the incident turned violent. One neighbor told News 12 New Jersey that it’s not the first time a car has been stolen from a driveway in that neighborhood within Verona.
Jennifer Vogel has lived along Floyd Road for 22 years.
“It’s disturbing. It was the middle of the day we were all home,” Vogel says. “I have faith in our police department, but this is going on for much too long.”
Verona police say that the Porsche Macan and the getaway car were both found by investigators.
News 12 previously r
eported about a Montclair family that was victimized by car thieves. In that case, three young men broke into the house while the family of four slept inside. They grabbed a key fob and took a BMW in the driveway.
That home is only 3 miles away from this latest theft. Verona Police Chief Christopher Kieran says his detectives do not believe the two thefts are related.
