A routine traffic stop in Middlesex County led to the arrest of a fugitive wanted for a decade-old murder.
East Brunswick police say that an officer pulled over a white box truck on Route 18 just before 9 a.m. Tuesday because the occupants were not wearing seatbelts. The officer said that he smelled marijuana coming from the truck during the stop, according to police.
The driver, 28-year-old Jose Jimenez-Castro, of South Bound Brook, and passenger, 32-year-old Jose Sanchez-Texidor, also of South Bound Brook, were arrested and charged with drug possession.
Police say that during processing they discovered that Sanchez-Texidor was wanted in Puerto Rico for a 2006 double homicide.
Sanchez-Texidor is now facing several charges, including drug possession and being a fugitive of justice. He is being kept at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center.
Jimenez-Castro was charged with drug possession and released.
