Police say thieves stole two trucks from a food bank and then ditched the vehicles in Jersey City. The alleged theft took place Saturday night when trucks owned by the Food Bank of Delaware were taken from the food bank?s parking lot in Newark, Del., police say.The 18-wheelers were driven from Delaware and later abandoned in Jersey City. Publicity surrounding the alleged crime generated the tip that led police there.The Food Bank of Delaware says it did not discover the theft until workers arrived Monday morning.Food bank manager Jim Weir says there were 53,000 pounds of frozen chicken in the two trailers. He fears some of it may have spoiled.?We have to check it and make sure we can keep it. If not, we might have to discard part of it,? Weir says. ?But hopefully, we'll be able to salvage as much as we can.?In these difficult times, Weir says he can't believe anyone could steal so many meals.?To take from us, which is just helping our community, that's what's most upsetting of all,? he says.
