What appeared to be a child abduction turned out to be a big misunderstanding, according to authorities.
Washington Township police in Bergen County say that they received reports about what appeared to be a child placed into the trunk of a car by an adult Saturday afternoon.
But they say that after reviewing security footage and speaking with the people involved, it was actually two teenagers horsing around. They say one of the teens voluntarily got into the truck of a friend’s car and then got out a few minutes later.
Police say it is important for parents to remind their children about the importance of responsible driving. They also say members of the public should also feel free to report any suspicious activity they may witness.
