Neptune police are looking for information regarding a starving puppy found abandoned in town.

Police say that the emaciated 8-week-old puppy was found in the Myrtle Avenue area.

“What we saw was beyond words. Skin and bones, labored breathing and unable to lift her head, a puppy we've named ‘Matilda’ was on the brink of death,” police wrote in a Facebook post.

The puppy was taken in for medical care. Police say that she has been minimally responding to care and is in critical condition.

“We're looking for anyone who may have information on Matilda, or where she came from so that we can investigate this cruel act,” police wrote.

Anyone who might have information is asked to call the Humane Law Enforcement Division at 732-440-1539.

Donations to assist in Matilda’s care can be made HERE.
