Police say a convicted sex offender was found walking with an 11-year-old boy through a motel parking lot early Saturday morning in Readington.

Authorities spotted 35-year-old Ryan Summers with the boy during routine business checks along Route 22. Police say the boy's mother is friendly with Summers and had given the boy permission to spend the night with him to play video games. The boy's mother says she wasn't aware of Summers' past offenses, police say.

Officers say they don't believe Summers had sexual contact with the boy. He is being held in Hunterdon County Jail and was charged with failing to register his current address.
