A man in critical condition after being shotby police following a car chase could face serious charges if he survives.
The state Attorney General's Office says the man who was shot last night has not been identified. But a spokesman says he led state troopers and local officers in Newark and Summit on a chase in a car that had been reported carjacked at gunpoint.
Authorities say officers fired at him twice. The first time was after he crashed into two police vehicles and then drove toward officers. The second was after speeding through two Newark wards and crashing into a building.
Officials say the man was in critical but stable condition at University Hospital in Newark.
