Police say a Newark police officer suffered a leg injury in an accident on Route 280 Monday just before 5 p.m.
Authorities say two Newark officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, but the two teenage suspects fled eastbound toward Kearny. Kearny and state police picked up the pursuit going westbound on Route 280 back into Newark, where the suspects crashed into a marked patrol car, injuring the officer.
The suspects continued to evade officers before fleeing the car on foot into Westside Park. One suspect was detained for questioning and the car was found on 13th Street.
A second officer was hospitalized for observation.
