Police: NJ man drove vehicle near crowd of pedestrians walking on sidewalk near Washington Monument

A man from New Jersey has been charged and accused of crashing his car onto the grounds of the Washington Monument.
The incident happened Saturday around 7:30 p.m.
According to the United States Park Police, Joseph Dessin, 38, allegedly drove his vehicle near a crowd of pedestrians walking on the sidewalk near the monument Saturday.
Officers discovered his vehicle struck the security barrier. No pedestrians were injured            
He was scheduled to be in court Monday.
Dessin was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and destruction of government property.
