A Galloway man is facing charges after he allegedly caused a crash while trying to rob a taxicab driver, according to Clifton police.
Police say that 20-year-old Jordan White was riding in a cab from Manhattan to Montclair early Monday morning. White allegedly asked the driver to open the divider, and when the driver opened the divider, White allegedly took out a box cutter and demanded the driver’s phone and money.
Police say that when the driver refused to comply, White stabbed and slashed him in the shoulder, back and chest, causing the driver to lose control of the taxi on Route 3 westbound in Clifton. The vehicle overturned several times and crashed into a wooded area off of the highway.

Authorities say that White then ran away from the crash. A short time later, police say officers responded to a CVS on Bloomfield dafter for reports of an injured person who walked into the stage room of the store. Police say that this person was identified as White and was placed under arrest.
White and the taxi driver were both taken to the hospital for treatment and have been released from the hospital.
White has been charged with aggravated assault, armed robbery and multiple weapons offenses.
