Edison police are continuing to search for a man who used a tree branch to break a car window before brandishing a knife, assaulting and robbing the occupant of the vehicle.

Authorities say the incident happened on Tuesday at approximately 5:17 p.m. behind an office building located on Lincoln Highway. According to police, the suspect used a large tree branch to strike and break the front windshield of the victim's vehicle. He then pulled out a knife before grabbing the victim's necklace as well as a bracelet.

The unidentified man also grabbed a purse belonging to the victim and stole a debit card and multiple gift cards.

"The suspect struck the victim during the struggle, inflicting injury on her right forearm," Edison police said in a statement.

Following the alleged robbery and assault, investigators say the suspect fled the area of Lincoln Highway and headed toward Evergreen Road. Authorities believe he may have been going toward the Metropark train station.

Police released a photo of the suspect who was wearing a face mask and gloves. He was also described as walking with a limp.

Edison police ask anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to call the Edison Police Detective Bureau at 732-248-7458.
