Hoboken Mayor Emily Jabbour says she plans to introduce new regulations for short-term rentals after police responded to reports of a disturbance Sunday morning on Garden Street.

Police responded around 9 a.m. to the 500 block of Garden Street and asked residents to avoid the area.

The streets later reopened, and police said there was no danger to the public related to the incident.

In a statement Sunday, Jabbour said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office was leading the investigation. She also acknowledged residents' frustration over the limited information released about the incident.

Jabbour said she plans to introduce an ordinance at the next City Council meeting to establish safety standards for short-term rentals, hold property owners accountable and give public safety officials more tools to monitor the properties and address problems.

The mayor said she had been speaking with residents in the neighborhood and emphasized that public safety remains a priority.

Authorities have not released further details about the disturbance.
