West Caldwell police are looking for an armed robbery suspect who put a homeowner into a terrifying situation early Tuesday morning.

Police say the homeowner was awakened by burglars breaking into this home around 4:30 a.m. through a sliding glass door. Police say that when the homeowner confronted the thieves, they used tape to bind his wrists and ankles. The thieves held the homeowner at gunpoint and stole cash and collectibles. The thieves then sped off in the homeowner’s SUV, according to police.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee was later found in New Brunswick after a crash. The suspects were not found.

Police are warning residents in West Caldwell and nearby towns about recent burglaries in the area. But authorities also say that this particular incident appears to have been a targeted attack.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the West Caldwell Police Department at 973-226-4114.
