A Cape May man is facing charges for allegedly cutting the head off a seagull at a beach, according to North Wildwood police.

Police were called to Morey’s Pier on July 6 for reports of an animal cruelty incident. Officials say that while authorities were interviewing the suspect – identified as 29-year-old Franklin Zeigler – he became irate and uncooperative and was arrested on disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges.

Officials say that a follow-up investigation led to additional animal cruelty charges being filed against Zeigler due to statements Zeigler allegedly made on the scene, as well as photographs and witness statements.

Zeigler was released from jail pending a future court hearing.
