Police say a juvenile playing with a gun accidentally shot and killed a 16-year-old Bridgeport boy Monday.
The shooting happened around 6 p.m. on Valley Avenue.
The victim, identified as Nigel Powell, was transported to St. Vincent's Medical Center, where he later died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Police say the incident was first believed to be a suicide, but upon talking to other witnesses it was learned that Powell was accidently shot.
Police say witnesses told them one of three juveniles was playing with a gun when it went off and the bullet struck Powell in the head.
It is still not known where the juvenile accessed the firearm or if it was registered.
Police did not say if the teen who shot Powell will be arrested or face any charges.
People at the victim's home did not want to speak with News 12 Connecticut on camera, but one friend shared on Facebook that she will remember Powell dancing to music.
