Police and Trenton?s mayor are crediting several programs for the city?s lowest reported crime rate in history.
The Trenton police director says the city is significantly safer than it was in the last 15 to 20 years. He adds from 2005 to 2006 was the city?s safest year yet. Statistics show an overall drop of 27 percent to approximately 3,700 reported crimes, which is more than 40 percent lower than 2002.
The police director and mayor say the drops are due to programs such as zero-tolerance barricades, surveillance cameras and better police response.
