Police car hits train, delays service on North Jersey Coast Line
A Long Branch police cruiser hit a train, delaying service on the North Jersey Coast Line Monday morning.
Long Branch police say that it happened just before 11 a.m. Police say that one of their officers was backing up another officer on a traffic stop on Brighton Avenue. They say that when he exited his car, the vehicle began to roll forward. It rolled down a grass embankment, with its front end on the train tracks.
A train was coming by at the time and struck the police car.
The incident delayed service on the rail line and led to one train being canceled. Delays went into the afternoon.
Police say that the officer reported that he was having trouble getting the vehicle into park, but felt that he did it before he left the car.
Police say that no one was hurt “except for some feelings.”
New Jersey Transit police are investigating.
