A mother in Cape May County was arrested on child abuse charges, accused of using a dog shock collar on her 6-year-old son, police said.

The investigation began when teachers at Cape May City Elementary School reported bruises on the boy’s neck.

The child told police his mother, Kimberly Cruz-Feliciano, used the collar on him, with his 9-year-old sister and grandmother as witnesses.

Court documents also allege Cruz-Feliciano strangled her daughter, threw her against a wall and threatened to break her teeth if she spoke about the abuse.

Cruz-Feliciano was charged with numerous crimes including endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of aggravated assault and witness tampering with threat of force and one count of hindering. She was remanded to the Cape May County Correctional Center pending further court proceedings.
