Police have found the body of a missing barge worker who fell into the water.
Bayonne police believe that the man is 55-year-old Danny Peters, of Brooklyn. Peters was working on a tugboat, which was sailing the Kill Van Kull on Friday night. When he tried to disembark, Peters fell in the water.
A worker from the International-Matex Tank Terminals saw Peters and tried to rescue him, but was unsuccessful.
Tugboat and barge traffic is common near the IMTT, a complex of tanks across 600 acres used for petro-chemical processing.
The U.S. Coast Guard initially received a call about a man in the water at around 8 p.m. Friday night.
Several crews responded with four boats, seven divers and a helicopter. At the time, several agencies were involved in the search - the Coast Guard, Bayonne police, state police, and the NYPD.
Bayonne police resumed their search Saturday morning at around 10:30 a.m., finding the body at around 10:47 a.m.
