Police received a call early Saturday morning reporting derogatory graffiti written on the ground in front of a garage at 222 Clinton St.
Officers took pictures, gathered any evidence they could and then painted over the offending comments with black paint to prevent neighbors from seeing it, which is part of incident bias protocol.
Police say their suspect is light skinned male who is bald with a medium build.
“This is not going to be tolerated. It is not accepted by people around. We do not have a big following of people hating any groups. We investigate immediately and we want to keep the public's confidence that we are going to bring people to justice who try to commit these types of acts,” says Hoboken Police Chief Ken Ferrante.
Ferrante says he is confident surveillance will help them catch the suspect and the he will likely face hate crime charges.
