Students at several Morris County schools were put under a shelter-in-place Tuesday morning after reports of a suspicious person near Convent Station in Morris Township.
Police received reports of a suspicious person outside of Saint Elizabeth University, prompting the shelter-in-place. The school is located near the borders of Morristown, Florham Park and Madison. Shelter-in-places were also issued at a nearby high school and at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Parents were notified around 10:15 a.m. about a possible active shooter situation. This turned out to be unfounded, but the schools remained under lockdown for hours.
Helicopters hovered over the campus and police from all nearby agencies were on the ground.
Parents were notified around 1 p.m. that their children would be released soon after – much to their relief.
“Get her home. Get her back to her puppy. We got a new puppy so get her back to her puppy and around her loved ones and make sure she is safe,” says parent, Wilfred Villanueva.
Police say they did not find the suspicious person and it is unclear if there really was someone there.
