Investigators spent the last few months reviewing thousands of hours of security footage from the protest on May 31 and the days following.
"Within minutes we started receiving tips so much so that the officers that were assigned to the task force actually had to come back into work because it was towards the end of the day," says Atlantic City Police Lt. Kevin Fair. "They actually had to come back into work to field all the tips because we didn't want to lose the information."
The city's business district was left badly damaged. Windows were smashed, merchandise was stolen, and property was damaged. Officers arrested 17 people during the hourslong event.
All face multiple charges, including criminal mischief, criminal trespass and assault.
