An 83-year-old woman was killed after becoming trapped in a burning home in Union County Tuesday morning.
The Cranford Police Department says that firefighters were dispatched to 26 Beech Street just after 7 a.m. for reports of a burning home.
When firefighters arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames. A neighbor was attempting to rescue two people from the home. Those two people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
But authorities say that a third person, identified as Grace Sinnott, was not able to escape and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire departments from several towns came to the scene to help fight the fire. Officials say that it damaged a neighboring home, as well as a detached garage.
The fire was bought under control around 8:10 a.m. Two firefighters were also treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
