A 12-year-old boy is facing criminal charges after he allegedly made threats against his school.

Garfield police say that the boy posted on social media that there would be a shooting at Garfield Middle School Monday. Authorities say that the boy told police it was a joke when he was questioned.

Security was increased at the school Monday as a precaution.

The boy was suspended and charged with juvenile delinquency.
