An 11-year-old girl is safe after a thief stole her mother’s car with her inside. Police now need the public’s help identifying the thief and his alleged accomplice.
The incident happened at the T-Mobile store on Jones Street in Newark on July 21.
Police say that the owner of the car left her daughter in the backseat while she ran into the store. They say that one of the suspects walked past the store looking at the mother, while the other suspect got into the car and drove away.
Police say the mother was able to run out of the store and bang on the window, but the suspect got away. He let the girl out of the car two blocks away. She was not hurt.
The vehicle was recovered a short time later, but the suspects remain on the loose.
The first suspect was described as a Black man with dreadlocks. He was wearing a black sweater, gray shorts and sandals.
The second suspect who allegedly stole the car was described as a Black man wearing gray sweatpants and a black sweater.
