Police say a 10-year-old girl has died after she was ejected from an amusement park ride at the Deerfield Township Harvest Festival Saturday night.
The four-day festival celebrates the fall harvest.
The incident happened around 6 p.m. Police say the girl was on the ride, called "Extreme," when she was ejected.
She was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, where she died about an hour later. Police haven't confirmed how she was ejected.
The girl’s identity was not released.
According to a statement on its website, the festival was remaining open Sunday "to offer a place for the community to come together in wake of this tragedy." The statement said that amusement rides and games are temporarily closed pending a state inspection, but other scheduled events were continuing.
The festival said on its website that rides were provided by Skelly's Amusements, of Williamstown.
Skelly's Amusements released a statement Sunday, saying in part, "Even though we have been given permission to operate the other rides by the state, we don't have it in our heart. We thank the sponsors of the festival for their understanding...We will be issuing refunds at the ticket booth. We continue to ask for you thoughts and prayers for the family."
Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
