The Bergen County prosecutor has confirmed that a 100-year-old Elmwood Park man killed his wife with an ax before taking his own life.
A spokeswoman for the prosecutor confirms Michael Juskin murdered his wife Rosalia by attacking her with an ax while she lay in bed. He then took his own life by cutting his wrists in the bathroom.
Elmwood Park police were called to the home on Spruce Street just after 8:30 a.m. Monday after a family member discovered the bodies. That family member went to the couple's home to check on them after family members were unable to contact them and became concerned.
The deaths are said to have occurred late Sunday night.
Prosecutor John Molinelli said that there was a history of domestic issues between the couple, but the motive of the crime is under investigation.
Family members have said that Michael Juskin suffered from dementia.
Autopsies performed on the couple by the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office have ruled Rosalia Juskin's death as a homicide and Michael Juskin's death as a suicide.
