Three police officers and one civilian were injured during a fire Saturday morning at a building in Jackson Township.
Authorities received a call at around 2 a.m. about a fire alarm at The Ponds at Jackson 21, a housing community. Fire officials say it began in building No. 7.
Fire crews found the building’s fire suppression system extinguished the flames.
Officials say the sprinkler system prevented the fire from growing and spreading to other parts of the building.
Jackson police officers also helped evacuate a woman inside the building.
Three officers and a civilian were checked for smoke inhalation. One officer remains hospitalized.
A preliminary investigation suggests that a candle was the cause of the fire, according to authorities.
Tenants can no longer live in two of the units. The American Red Cross was requested to help three displaced residents.
Other residents were able to return.
